Hey folks! I am so happy because I finally got a sewing machine! I made a New
Year’s resolution (2012) to learn to sew. I figured it was about time to get started,
it is October!! It’s almost time to think of a new one!
The web was a good starter project because there were no straight lines involved,
so nobody got hurt:) I found several pieces of lace and doilies at a local junk store.
They were more expensive than I thought! I’m a bargain hunter though and I was
able to “negotiate” with the owner since I’m a frequent flyer at her store.
First I picked out the center piece, then I laid them out. Once I figured out how to
work the machine, I just started sewing higgilty piggilty. Then I strung it up, stretching
out the corners to kind of shape it into a web. The bottom section is stretched out with
some invisible fishing line.
My momma bought me that sweet, jingly bell spider at one of my favorite inspiration
spots: Pier 1. I’m glad you can’t be kicked out for taking pictures in their store. They
have really cute stuff, but the prices! SHEESH! In my town Pier 1 is right next door to
Michael’s and a fabric store-yay me, saving gas like that!

I felt pretty confident after the web, so I decided to tackle some pillows. Of course,
just plain squares will not do.
I made the flower on this one by cutting out petals and sewing the bottom of each
then gluing them one by one around a circle.
I love the fabric on this one. The characters are so cute and creepy, plus the chandeliers and other patterns are so my style! I had to sew the pink velvet ribbon on with a straight line on each side, which was a slow go. It takes patience to sew straight. I added the pearl snaps on with the pink bow. The pink and grey is so feminine yet the pillow is definitely Halloweenish:)
The flower on this one is my absolute favorite flower to make. You cut chiffon in circles and singe the edges, then cut into quarters and singe the cuts. The more you stack, the fuller your flower. I believe I stacked twelve circles here. I love the lacy black and white ribbon and the black string of beads. I think this goes well with my Halloween decor, but can also stay out all the time.
I now feel very well rounded as an artist because I have added sewing to my
repertoire. My only problem is SO MANY IDEAS AND SO LITTLE TIME!
One of my all time wishiest wishes is to be an artist FULL TIME!! PLEEEASE!
Happy Halloween!!!
